Mainland Beaches

Some of the most popular attractions to Costa Rica are the beaches along the coast of Peninsula Papagayo, and among them are Playas del Coco, Playa Tamarindo, and Playa Avellanas.

Playas del Coco is a fun beach town a little ways away and is full of shopping, restaurants, ice cream shops, and local flavor. A lively combination of visitors and locals give this town a unique and vibrant atmosphere!

Tamarindo and Avellanas are two beach towns located about a bit further out, making them great day-visit spots. They are famous not only for their waves, but also for their energetic atmospheres.

The waves have a world-famous slow break that allows for all levels of surfing. Avellanas is a completely natural beach with famously gorgeous sunsets. Tamarindo is a wonderful town to spend the day surfing, beaching, going to art galleries, shopping, and eating with the family. With a multitude of dining options and great streets for walking, the town is the perfect way to wind down your beach day.

Secluded Beaches

With the optional boat rental from Monkey Villa, you have full reign around the Gulf of Papagayo. As an amenity not available to everyone, a private boat lets you see the area’s coastline as well as visit the numerous beaches only accessible by boat.
